How I use AI

Last updated

I use AI heavily for technical help and lightly for creative help.

Tools

I’m currently favoring Codex and ChatGPT over Claude.

Coding

I use AI for coding. I don’t find it very different from years of copying and pasting code. It also feels similar to working with another developer. I experiment with how much I let AI do on its own.

Writing

For writing, I really dislike AI’s writing style. Additionally, I like to practice writing myself. But for technical writing, I will use AI more.

For technical writing, I might use AI first and edit after. For example, I might write instructions for a complicated recipe by starting with AI compiling my notes into a recipe.

For all other types of writing, I’ll write a first draft by myself. Then I’ll use AI to help with editing and proofreading.

AI for this!

Creative projects

Even though I don’t use AI for creative writing, I do enjoy it for arts and crafts and making music. I use AI for the technical side of art.

Like coding, it’s the same to me as partnering with a collaborator. I’ll write the lyrics and melody of a song, but instead of paying my friend Danny Shyman to produce the song, I pay Suno $2 in credits for a worse job.

Don’t like that I’m taking jobs away from Danny? Hire him here.
